Senator Shehu Sani

Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs

Senator Shehu Sani is a prolific author, playwright and a Human Rights Activist. Prior to his election to the federal senatorial seat, he served as the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRCN) and the Chairman of Hand-in-Hand, Africa. He was a leading figure in the struggle for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria, and has been arrested and jailed by past successive military regimes in Nigeria but released from life imprisonment when Democracy was restored in Nigeria in 1999. He currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the committee on Foreign Affairs, and has published over ten books on varied topics that reflect his experiences in public life.
